What a good idea! Stereotypes are charmingly broken. Zog is an imaginative story about a little dragon in training. The problem is that he’s not very good at breathing fire and capturing princesses.
Luckily for Zog there is a princess on hand who nurses his injuries and volunteers to be captured so Zog can get his gold star. But that’s not all, when a young knight turns up to save her she confesses that she really wants to be a doctor not a princess. The knight thinks this is a grand idea too. But who will be their stead? You guessed it Zog!
The flying doctors take to the skies all delighted with their new career choices.
The story has a strong friendship theme and may reflect the difficulties of school or not being very good at something that you are expected to do well.
‘Zog’ is filled with humour and kindness. Disappointments are soothed by looking at things in new ways and receiving help from friends.
The Illustrations in ‘Zog’ are full of life and endearing character. Axel Scheffler’s ability to turn scary creatures into friendlier personalities make this story instantly memorable.
Children will love the funny and expressive artwork which breathes life into this super cute dragon.

“My sister Mary and I were always creating imaginary characters and mimicking real ones, and I used to write shows and choreograph ballets for us. A wind-up gramophone wafted out Chopin waltzes.”
This creativity led to a career in singing and song writing, mainly for children’s television.
