Absolutely Brilliant Creativity! Richard Scarry pushes beyond the boundaries of the standard alphabet book with this action packed ABC Word Book.
A host of hilarious animals go about their daily lives, filling the pages with hundreds of silly scenarios.
Richard Scary’s ABC Word Book shows the featured letter in upper and lower case and then proceeds to show this letter highlighted in red as it appears in every word on the page.
Things are named as you might expect but the focus is more clearly on identifying the letter itself in the short story lines and sentences. There are also pages for Ch, Sh and Th which cleverly include a multitude of words with these letters in them.
“King Theodore Thaddeus walked down the path without thinking whother he was going. He walked into a thicket of thisles.”
“No one was hurt in the accident as everyone was wearing their seat belt.”
“Peter is pushing Paul. Stop that, Peter. Don’t be a pest!”
” A brave cat diving to save a mouse”.
The stories are written for an American audience so a few of the words like Ketchup, Janitor and Sanitation worker may be new to children.
In ABC word books the letter X is usually dealt with in a dull way, but not so here!
“There are exactly six saxophone players in the taxi.”
Z also fares well… ” Izzy Lizard is dizzy. He is walking zigzag.
The pictures are all descriptive and highly comical! The large format pages will keep kids busy for hours, hunting out the myriad of exciting things that are happening.
Boys will gravitate to this book as it is filled with vehicles, devices and planes.
No wonder Richard Scarry’s 300 plus books have sold over two hundred million copies in thirty languages.
A fantastic ABC book to encourage children’s literacy, especially in boys.
