David Wojtowycz
David Wojtowycz was born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in 1969. He inherits his unusual second name from his Ukranian-born father.
He went to Goldsmiths College, University of London to study fine art and graduated in 1992.
David’s distinctive style is instantly recognisable due largely to his popular greeting card range, Pigs Might Fly (Statics) and more recently, Flux Deluxe (Santoro Graphics).
It was while David was working with Statics that he met Giles Andreae, alias Purple Ronnie and this led to their collaboration on their first book for Orchard Books Rumble in the Jungle.
Commotion In The Jungle, Cockadoodle-Do-Farmyard Hullabaloo and several novelty spin-offs followed. This successful author/illustrator pairing also won the picture book section of the Children’s Book Award in 1998 with The Lion Who Wanted To Love.
David and Giles have teamed up again to create Dinosaurs Galore! – gloriously noisy dinosaur rhymes with vibrant, friendly artwork.
David writes many of his own picture book texts and in 2001, A Cuddle For Cluade was nominated for the Sheffield Book Award. Claude is now the subject of a popular animated TV series.
Elephant Joe Is A Pirate!, Elephant Joe Is A Spaceman! and Elephant Joe is a Knight! marked a new direction for David, with a change in style that is fresh and fun.
David lives in South London and travels regularly between London, Berlin, and Chicago.
